Christmas Joy at Mallory's Way
The Heart of Our Mission

Who Is Mallory?

Mallory Erin Scott (1987–2006) was the kind of person people remembered — full of joy, fiercely loyal, and the inspiration behind everything we do.

Mallory Erin Scott

Mallory Erin Scott

1987 – 2006

“Mallory was someone who made people feel something.”

Mallory Erin Scott was the kind of person people remembered.

She had a big smile, a quick sense of humor, and a personality that seemed to leave an impression wherever she went. She loved to laugh, loved to cut up with her friends, and had a way of turning ordinary moments into the stories people are still telling years later.

Mal was an athlete through and through. She played basketball and softball, and she was competitive, talented, and passionate. She was someone you wanted on your team and someone you hated to play against. But the people who played alongside her, and even against her, remembered more than how she played. They remembered her sportsmanship, her energy, and the way she carried herself.

She was also fiercely loyal.

If Mal loved you, she loved you wholeheartedly. She was the friend who would listen when you needed to talk, make you laugh when you were upset, tell you the truth when you needed to hear it, and stand beside you even after the occasional argument that comes with being young and being best friends. She cared deeply for her friends, her family, and the people closest to her.

Mal was a friend to everyone. Even if you weren’t in her closest circle, she had a way of making you feel seen. She would say hello in the hallway or laugh at your jokes. She made people feel comfortable, included, and important.

That was Mal.

She was funny and stubborn, beautiful and competitive, loving and imperfect. She could make you laugh, aggravate you, argue with you, and still somehow be the person you wanted beside you when something went wrong.

She was a week shy of her 19th birthday when her life ended in 2006, and there was so much still ahead of her.

But twenty years later, the stories people tell about Mallory are still filled with laughter, friendship, ball fields, music, inside jokes, and love.

And maybe that is the best way to explain who she was.

Mallory was someone who made people feel something.

  • ✓ She made people laugh.
  • ✓ She made people feel seen.
  • ✓ She made people feel loved.

And the love she left behind is still finding its way into the world today.

That is the heart behind Mallory’s Way.

Every bill paid, every Christmas gift wrapped, and every family supported in our community carries her warmth, her fierce loyalty, and her love forward.

Make a Way When Life Gets Hard

A Mallory’s Waymaker is someone who chooses to make a way for families when life gets hard.

Waymakers are the individuals, businesses, and community partners who come alongside Mallory’s Way through financial support, resources, volunteerism, and acts of kindness. Their generosity helps remove obstacles, meet real needs, and remind families that they do not have to face difficult seasons alone.

More than a donor, a Mallory’s Waymaker is part of Mallory’s legacyβ€”a community of people committed to showing up, giving back, and making life a little easier for someone who needs it.

Emily Franks

President / Director

Serving the people of Summertown through Mallory’s Way is incredibly personal to me.

Mal was such an important part of my life, and even after all these years, her memory continues to shape the way I see friendship, community, and the importance of showing up for people when they need it most.

Helping bring Mallory’s Way back to life has been one of the most meaningful things I have ever been a part of. I am passionate about helping families through difficult seasons, connecting people with resources, and finding practical ways to make a difference in our community.

For me, Mallory’s Way is more than a nonprofit. It is a way to carry forward the love, loyalty, and kindness Mal gave so freely to the people in her life. It is also a way for me to continue walking through life with my best friend beside me, while making sure the love she left behind continues to do good in the world.

Although I did not know Mallory personally, I have had the privilege of knowing her parents and understanding their desire to keep Mallory’s memory alive by giving back to the community that loved her. I personally witnessed Mallory’s Way in action when they reached out to help my brother during a very dark season in his life. Their kindness and generosity made a lasting impact on our family.

It is a true blessing and honor to serve on the Mallory’s Way board and to have the opportunity to give back to members of our community who may be walking through some of the darkest seasons of their lives. I am grateful to be part of an organization that carries Mallory’s memory forward by offering hope, kindness, and support to others.

After retiring from teaching, my husband and I moved to here from out of state to be closer to family. One of the hardest aspects of the move was losing my connections and relationships with people. I have always felt and lived by the driving force that helping people is the number one goal during our time here on this earth. By chance, I met Emily Franks. The rest as they say is history. I am honored to be on the Board. We are moving forward in making differences in the lives of the precious people in our community one person at a time.

As a former teacher of Mallory, I feel especially honored to serve as a board member of the Mallory’s Way Foundation. Mallory was a bright and memorable young woman whose life touched so many people, and it is deeply meaningful to me to help carry forward her legacy. After spending 40 years in education, I now enjoy volunteering, giving back to my community, traveling, and spending precious time with my family. Serving with the Mallory’s Way Foundation allows me to continue making a difference while honoring the life and memory of a very special former student.

I am truly honored to be a part of Mallory’s Way. Mallory was someone I looked up to from a young age, and she played a meaningful role in my life growing up. Being able to honor her legacy by giving back and serving our community means more to me than I can put into words. I have always had a heart for helping others, especially children and families, and I can’t think of a better way to spend my time than making a difference in our community in a way I know Mallory would be proud of.

My wife, Dana, and I have lived in Summertown our entire lives and raised our three children here. We have always considered Mallory’s family friends, which makes being a part of Mallory’s Way especially meaningful to me. It is an honor to serve with an organization built around generosity, compassion, and helping others in our community.

Throughout my career, I have been involved in owning, building, and growing businesses. I have also had the opportunity to serve on several boards in our area, including nonprofit organizations as well as technical and industry boards. Those experiences have taught me a great deal about the importance of giving back and using the opportunities and experience we have been given to help others.

I have always enjoyed helping people who are going through difficult times. To me, helping someone is about more than meeting an immediate need. It is also about helping them find a way forward and giving them hope and opportunity. My hope is that, somewhere down the road, the people we help will find themselves in a position to extend that same helping hand to someone else.

Serving on the board of Mallory’s Way gives me an opportunity to honor Mallory’s memory while helping local children and families and continuing the spirit of generosity and compassion that this organization represents.

For the past 20 years, I have had the privilege of being an educator, and for the past 8 years, I have been blessed to serve the families of Summertown Elementary. Summertown has been home to my family for 19 years, and this community has become such a special part of my life. I truly believe God has placed me here to serve this school and community. It is an honor to be a voice for the students of Summertown Elementary and to have the opportunity to serve on the board of Mallory’s Way. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, exercising, reading, and visiting national parks with my family.

I am honored to be a small part of Mallory’s Way, a foundation who gives back to this community that has given so much to me.

I grew up looking up to Mallory, Beth and Emilyβ€”the people they were, the athletes they were. As a wife, mom, educator and coach, serving others and supporting those around me has always been important to me. I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside others who share a heart for our community and to help make a positive difference through Mallory’s Way.

Summertown has always been home to me and my family, and it is a community that we have always loved and been proud to be a part of. Being able to serve on the board of Mallory’s Way is incredibly special to me because of the person at the heart of its missionβ€”my sister, Mallory Scott.

Mal was my first true role model and the first person I can remember genuinely looking up to. She was an amazing sister, athlete, friend, and member of our community. She had a way of making an impact on the people around her, and I will always be proud to call her my sister.

Mal will forever hold a special place in my heart. I cherish the memories we shared and the impact the she continues to have on my life.

Being a part of Mallory’s Way gives me the opportunity to continue Mal’s legacy in the community that meant so much to her and continues to mean so much to our family. Every person we help, every family we support, and every act of kindness we are able to give is another way for Mal to continue touching the lives of others. To me, Mallory’s Way allows her love and memory to continue living through the people of Summertown, and it gives me the opportunity to carry a piece of my sister with me as we give back to the community we have always called home.

I grew up in Summertown and remember going to the Mallory’s Way events with my family when I was younger. I was pretty young at the time, so I didn’t fully understand the impact those events had or how much they meant to our community. It’s pretty special to now be part of it all and have the opportunity to spread the word about the organization and help grow the support behind it. I love seeing Emily’s heart behind Mallory’s Way and the selflessness that she and so many others bring to it and the people it serves. Being able to give back to the place I grew up makes this role mean even more to me, and I’m so honored to be a part of it.

Jason Franks

Jason Franks

I never had the chance to know Mallory directly. But the more I hear the people who loved her tell her story, the more I understand why her memory still moves this community twenty years later. She made people feel seen, and that is exactly what Mallory's Way does for families going through hard seasons.

I have spent nearly 30 years building technology, and I call Summertown home. My role here is simple: make it easy for families to ask for help, and make it easy for our volunteers to give it. Every form, every system, and every process should get out of the way so the people doing the real work can spend their time with the people who need them.

I'm grateful to play a small part in carrying her love forward.
